In [[botany]], a '''subspecific name''' is the third part of a [[trinomen]]. In botany there is only one [[rank (zoology)|rank]] below that of species, namely "[[subspecies]]".  

The name of a subspecies is a trinomen, a trinominal name, i.e. a name that consists of three names: [[generic name]], [[specific name]] and subspecific name. The subspecific name is written like the [[specific name]]: without capitalisation but typeset in italics.
