Upside-down gardening is when you hang a sack, bucket or other container of dirt, and plant things like tomatoes or cucumbers to grow downwards out the bottom of it. A popular brand of this is the Topsy Turvy planter.
There is an excellent Upside-down gardening article in the New York Times we'll link to until someone can volunteer to write one here.
