Narrow leaves have quadrangular sections, and are a tough, dark green^fl. Flower spikes are thin and whitish^fl, and about 0.9-1.2m (3-4 ft) tall, emerging from the crown of leaves^fl. Flower spikes, soft leaf bases and roots are edible^fl.
