Magnolia splendens, Urban. Laurel Sabino. Evergreen tree, to 80 ft.: branchlets appressed-pubescent: lvs. ovate or elliptic-ovate, obtusely acuminate, rounded at the base, glabrous and glossy above, covered with a lustrous silky tomentum beneath, 4-7 in. long: fls. on stalks ¾ in. long; sepals 3, green, obovate-oblong; petals about 8, white, obovate, 1 ¾ in. long: fr. oval, about ½ in. long. June-Aug. Porto Rico.—Suited for tropical and subtropical regions only.
