About 6-12 in. high: sts. with 5-6 sessile, lanceolate lvs. : fls. few, in a sessile spike; calyx green, 1 1/2 in. long, slit deeply down one side as the fl. expands; corolla-tube rather dilated upward; limb purple, rarely pale lilac or white, upper segm. about 1 in., very cucullate, lower lanceolate, decurved; staminoid oblanceolate-unguiculate: caps, cylindric. Himalayas, Assam, and Burma. B.M. 4630. B.R. 26:61. L.B.C. 15:1404. G.C. III. 8:191. Gn. 78:159. G.W. 14, p. 370. J.F. 3:230.—A variable species, the hardiest of the genus. Var. sikkimensis, Hort.
