Leaves up to 1 1/2 ft. long: scape up to 2 ft. tall, greenish purple, pubescent, 3-5-flowered; flowers about 4 in. greatest diameter; dorsal sepal cordate, acuminate, white, with usually 2 or 3 dark crimson streaks: petals 5-6 in. long, linear, twisted, sparsely ciliate at base, the lower two-thirds pale tawny yellow, crimson-spotted, the remainder crimson; lip dull rose, veined and reticulated with crimson, the narrow infolded lobes whitish; stamino- dium fringed except in front. Autumn. Borneo. Var. acrosepalum, Reichb. f. Dorsal sepal narrower than in type, the lateral sepals free. Var. Cannaertianum, Hort. Dorsal sepal white; petals longer than in the type, creamy white with a central line of chocolate spots. Var. platytaenium, Reichb. f. Flowers larger, the petals much broader, white, spotted with yellow and purple, the apex carmine.
