May-Aug. Mountains of E. Eu.—It forms a dense mass of underground sts. and is easily prop. by division or seeds. Var. grandiflora, Hort., is a large-fld. form offered in the trade. Var. Richentreichii, Hort., is offered in the trade as a smaller form, about 6 in. high.
