Begonia clarkei, Hook. Stout and erect, 2 feet, puberulent, the st. purplish, fleshy: Leaves obliquely cordate-ovate, serrate: flowers in pendulous racemes, abundant, large, bright red. Bolivia, 9,000-10,000 ft.—Resembles B. Veitchii. It was the seed parent of Vesuvius and Emperor, two important and useful varieties for bedding out. Probably not now in cultivation.
