May, June. China, Japan.—Very handsome shrub, with large pure white fls., but only half-hardy N. Var. lanceata, Zabel (S. Reevesiana flore-pleno, Hort.), with double fls. and narrower lvs. is still more tender. This species and the three foregoing are valuable also for their handsome foliage, which remains fresh and green until late in fall.
