Paphiopedilum superbiens (syn. Cypripedium superbiens, C. barbatum [[variety|var.]] Veitchii. C. barbatum [[variety|var.]] superbiens, C. Veitchianum). Leaves up to 8 in. long and 2.5 in. broad, oblong-elliptic, tessellated: scape longer than leaves, brown, white-pilose, 1-flowered; flowers about 4 in. greatest diameter, the segments ciliate; dorsal sepal broadly ovate, acute, white, green-striped; petals deflexed, ligulate, white, green-veined, with numerous blackish warts, the marginal ones larger; lip somewhat helmet-shaped, brownish purple, pale green below, the infolded lobes crimson and warty. May-July. Malay Peninsula. —Vars. Demidoffii and Lindenii are known. | |||
