Pelargonium fulgidum, Ait. (Geranium fulgidum, Linn.). St. shrubby, densely pubescent: lvs. pinnately 3-parted. silky on both sides, the lateral segms. 3-lobed, all deeply toothed, the terminal lobe oblong and pinnatifid;stipules acute, broadly cordate: peduncles usually branched, many-fld. ; fls. small, bright scarlet, thepetals obtuse; calyx-tube conspicuously swollen at the base and again just underneath the fl., thrice as long asthe pedicel, the lobes linear-obtuse; petals brilliant scar-let with dark lines.—Perhaps not now seen in its pure form, but it is probablya remote parent in various small-fld. scarlet geraniums.Cult, in England as early as 1723.
