Cerinthe retorta, Sibth. & Smith. Honeywort. Fig. 885. Height 1½-2 ft.: lvs. glaucous, often spotted white or red; lower lvs. obovate-spatulate; upper lvs. amplexicaul, with 2 round ears, on the flowering branches gradually becoming smaller and closer together until they pass into purple bracts, which form the chief attractive feature of the plant: fls. when full-blown protruded beyond the bracts; corolla tubular-club-shaped, yellow, tipped purple, with 5 small, spreading teeth: frs. smooth but not shining.
