Lepachys columnaris, Torr. & Gray (Ratibida columnaris, D. Don). A rough-pubescent perennial, branching from the base, 1-2 1/2ft. high in the wild, often higher in culture: st.-leaves with 5-9 divisions, which are oblong to linear in outline and sometimes 2-3-cleft: flowers solitary, terminating the branches; rays yellow; style - tips short, obtuse. Prairies, Saskatchewan to Texas and Rocky Mts. CH
