Corynostylis (Greek, describing the club- shaped style). Violaceae. A monotypic genus of woody climbers, with alternate lvs. and terminal racemes of long-stalked violet-like fls. C. Hybanthus, Mart. & Zucc. (Calyptrion Aubletii, Ging. Corynostylis Aubletii, Hort.), is native of Trop. Amer. The lvs. are 2-5 in. long, ovate, or orbicular, bright green, serrate: fls. white, in axillary showy racemes which are contiguous along the St., lone-spurred, 2 or 3 times as large as a violet, the spur half-twisted. F.S. 21:2213. B.M. 5960.—A handsome, vigorous warmhouse climber, and cult, in the open in S. Calif. Prop, by cuttings and seeds. CH
