Hamelia patens, Jacq. Shrub, to 12 ft.: lvs. opposite or usually in whorls of 3, elliptic-ovate to oblong, acute or acuminate at both ends, minutely pubescent or glabrous, 3-6 in. long; petiole ½ - 1 ½ in. long: infl. 2-5 in. across; sepals triangular, short; corolla with narrowly cylindric tube about ¾ in. long, scarlet-orange: fr. ovoid, black, Kin. long. Fla. to Brazil. B.M. 2533.
