Mammillaria macromeris, Engelm. Fig. 2314. Low, usually soon proliferous, dark green: tubercles large and long, loose and spreading, but often incurved; groove rather short: radials 10-17, weak, slender and spreading; centrals at maturity usually 4, somewhat stouter and much longer; sometimes more than 2 in. long: fls. purple, often 3 in. in expansion; petals erose, mucronate: fr. with several scales on the ovary. Along the Rio Grande from New Mex. to Texas.
