Acrostichum (derivation uncertain). Polypodiaceae. As properly delimited, a small genus of coarse tropical swamp ferns, sometimes grown under glass. Stem stout, erect: lvs. clustered, erect, once-pinnate, 3-8 ft. high: sporangia completely covering the backs of some or all the pinnae of the fertile lvs. CH The above text is from the Standard Cyclopedia of Horticulture.
