Githopsis (like Githago, from the calyx). Campanulaceae. One blue-fid, annual in Calif., sometimes recorded in horticultural literature, G. specularioides, Nutt. It grows in the open hill country and the mountains: st. simple or somewhat branched, 4-7 in. high, rough- pubescent: lvs. obovate to oblong or narrower, sharp-toothed, less than ½ in. long: corolla tubular- bell-shaped, the lobes shorter than the tube; calyx 10-ribbed, adnate to the ovary: fr. a coriaceous caps., bearing the rigid calyx - lobes, dehiscing at apex. Var. diffusa, Jepson, is nearly glabrous, but sinuses of calyx somewhat hispid. L. H. B. CH
