Iris laevigata, Fisch. (I. kaempferi, Sieb. I. albopurpurea, Baker). Japanese Iris. Figs. 1975, 1976. Lvs. thin, ensiform, 1-1 ½ ft- long: st. much overtopping the lvs., obscurely angled, 1-3-headed: pedicel ½ -2 in. long: tube short; limb blue, violet, etc., sometimes white, spreading, 3-5 in. across; outer segms. broadly ovate-oblong, obtuse; with a yellow spot on the claw; claw short, distinct; inner segms. oblanceolate, erect, conniving or spreading; style-branches with bifid, incurved lobes.
