Pennisetum macrostachyum, Trin. (Gymnothrix macrostachys, Brongn.). Culms 4-5 ft., blades broad, flat; spike 8-12 in., resembling that of P. Ruppelii. E. Indies.—A half- hardy form with dark purplish foliage and handsome dark crimson spikes has recently been intro. under the name of P. macrophyllum atropurpureum. M.D.G. 1906:9. Does not reproduce reliably from seed. CH
