Philadelphus hirsutus, Nutt. (P. hirsutus var. gracilis, Schrad. P. inodorus var. hirsutus, Wood. P. trinervius, Schrad. P. inodorus, Schrad.). Upright or spreading shrub, to 8 ft.: lvs. lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 1-2 3/4 in. long, 3/8-1 1/2 in. wide, acuminate, regularly serrate (rarely denticulate), usually with more or less numerous short, rough hairs above, closely silvery-gray coated beneath, thin and papery when young.
