Schizandra coccinea, Michx. High-climbing shrub: lvs. slender-petioled, ovate or oval, acuminate, entire or obscurely denticulate, glabrous, 2- 3 1/2 in. long: fls. monoecious, crimson-purplish, 1/3-1/2 in. across; stamens 5, connate into a 5-lobed disk with the anther-cells widely separated: berries scarlet, forming a loose raceme 2-3 in. long.
