Sciadophyllum (shade leaf, because of the umbrageous foliage). Araliaceae. As understood by Bentham & Hooker in Genera Plantarum, it is a genus of the American tropics, at that time with about 22 known species, differing from Schefflera, among other things, in the calyptrate or coherent rather than free petals and sometimes 4-merous fls. Harms, in Engler & Prantl’s Pflanzenfamilien, refers it to Schefflera, and under this name (p. 3108) are here described any species probably now in the trade. CH
