Smilax aspera, Linn. A half-hardy shrub often somewhat scandent, unarmed or with spines : lvs. ovate-deltoid or lanceolate, 1 1/2- 6 in. long, usually blotched with white, 5-9-nerved: fls. white, sweet-scented, in many-fld. umbels: berries 1/4 in. thick, usually 3-seeded, shining red.
