Solanum alatum, Seem. & Schmidt (S. robustum, Wendl.). Vigorous more or less spiny densely tomentose herb or subshrub, the sts. winged, 3-5 ft. high: lvs. decurrent with the spiny petiole, sometimes 1 ft. long, broadly ovate or ovate-elliptic in outline, sinuately lobed, the lobes acute, upper surface green and tomentose-velvety, woolly with more or less rusty tomentum beneath: fls. in axillary racemes, calyx unarmed, corolla about 1 in. across, white, with ovate-lanceolate acute lobes: fr. globular, small, hairy, orange-colored.
