Sorbus caloneura, Rehd. (Micromeles caloneura, Stapf. Pyrus caloneura, Veitch). Shrub or small tree, to 20 ft.: branchlets glabrous: lvs. elliptic-oblong to obovate-oblong, acute or sometimes short-acuminate, broadly cuneate at the base, doubly crenate-serrate, quite glabrous and dark green above, pale beneath and sparingly hairy on the veins, 2 1/2-3 1/2 in. long, with 10-12 pairs of veins impressed above: infl. dense, many-fld.: fls. 1/4 in. across, with violet-purple stamens; styles 5; ovary 5-celled: fr. pyriform, 1/3 – 1/2 in. long brown. May; fr. in Oct. Cent. China. B.M. 8335. CH
