Stipa splendens, Trin. (Lasiagrostis splendens, Kunth). Culms 3-6 ft.: panicles rather dense, about 1 ft. long, nodding; spikelets numerous, small, the glumes less than 1/4 in., pearly and shining, tinged with purple at the base; lemma 3/8 in., villous, the awn 1/4 – 1/2 in. Steppes of W. Asia. CH
